Belisara's back frame is close to a square with corners rounded well over; the upholstered panel sits in a rebate cut into its inner edge. A horizontal rail ties the two rear posts below the frame, and the gap between is left open.
The front legs are square in section and tapered, while the rear legs curve outward as they run down from the seat. That curve holds the chair steady when you lean back and gives the frame movement in profile.
The seat frame is left open so an upholstered pad drops into it, and the serrated blocks at the corners keep the pad from shifting. The photographs show the bare frame alongside the walnut stained version, with the back panel and seat upholstered in salmon fabric.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with square section tapered front legs, rear legs that curve outward and a rebated back frame. In the upholstered version the back panel and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
