Erovi Wrapped Cane Bar Chair

Erovi's back is not a flat panel: the top rail wraps forward on one side and turns the back around the corner. The cane follows that turn, so the back reads as a textured surface not only from behind but from the side as well.

Beneath the weave, between the top rail and the seat, a shaped wooden rail runs across and leaves an eye like opening between them. The post carrying the back is the uninterrupted continuation of the rear leg; it rises from the seat in a single line.

The seat is a wooden saddle that reads as one piece: a slim lip rises along its edge and the surface is lightly hollowed into a scoop. In the unfinished photograph the seat is already in place and made of the same timber as the frame, so the first image is not an incomplete frame but a finished chair in its unfinished state. The legs are round in section and splay outward. There is a round stretcher on each of the four faces and the four together close into a ring around the legs; there is no medial member, no diagonal brace and no separate footrest component. The ring is not in one plane: the stretchers are joined at different heights, and the lowest of them is where feet actually rest. The photographs show the unfinished natural version alongside the walnut stained one with a red fabric upholstered seat.
