Gorvi Cane Oval Bar Chair

Gorvi shares its body with Evaro; the difference is what goes inside the oval ring. Here the ring is not left empty but filled edge to edge with woven cane. The weave still lets light through, but the back is no longer a frame: it is a surface with a texture. The ring is wider than it is tall and draws a stadium form rounded at both ends.

Two posts carry the ring; they are the uninterrupted continuation of the rear legs, rise on a soft S curve and merge into the ring without a visible joint. A groove cut along the inner edge of the ring holds the cane, leaving a narrow wooden margin all round it.

The legs are round in section, splay in four directions and taper towards the floor. There is a round stretcher on each of the four faces; there is no medial member, no diagonal brace and no separate footrest component. The four are joined at three different heights: the front one sits lowest and is where feet actually rest, the two side ones sit level with each other at a middle height, and the back one is highest. The photographs show the salmon lacquered frame, its seat pad not yet fitted, alongside the walnut stained version with an oatmeal fabric upholstered seat.
