Evron Uncarved Cartouche Chair

Evron is the uncarved counterpart to Dalvo. The cartouche back hoop draws the same silhouette: it widens at the shoulders, draws in at the waist and opens again lower down. The difference gathers at the crown; with the carved crest taken away the line of the arch closes uninterrupted and the curve of the hoop is the only thing left to hold the eye.

Two slim beads run along the profile of the hoop and repeat the form once more from within. Below the cartouche a horizontal rail ties the two stiles together; it divides the opening under the back in two and gives the chair a rhythm unusual in classic sets.

The front legs are curved in the Louis idiom and finish on a small pad foot; the rear legs are plain and raked back. There are no stretchers between the legs. In the bare frame photograph both the inside of the hoop and the seat opening are empty, and the webbing slots on the inner face of the seat rail are in view. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version with an orange fabric upholstered back and seat.
