Lariel's back is a frame that arches at the top, filled with woven cane. The arch gives a softer crown than a rectangular cane back and makes the chair look less severe behind a counter.
In the natural version the seat is woven too; in the fabric upholstered version it gives way to a padded cushion. The same frame therefore comes out with two different characters: woven throughout, or a woven back with a fabric seat.
The legs are round in section and straight, and the stretchers between them are tied at different levels, forming the surface the foot rests on. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version with a brick red fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with a natural woven cane back panel stretched into an arch topped frame, a woven seat in the natural version and round section legs. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe the wood with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Clean the cane back with a dry brush or a vacuum brush on low power, and never wet it. Treat stains on the fabric seat promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth.
