Lavento Cane Bar Chair

Lavento shares its frame with Larmivo; the difference is what goes inside the back. Here the rounded rectangular frame is filled not with an upholstered panel but with tightly woven cane. Because the weave lets light through, a row of these chairs along a counter does not read as a wall.

The back starts immediately above the seat, with no gap left between them. The panel is unusually wide and low for a bar chair, broader than it is tall, and set at a slight recline. The lower edge of the frame sits on the seat rail, and the battens holding the cane taut stay visible beneath that joint. In the bare frame photograph the cane is already woven; the only thing left empty is the seat opening.

The legs are square in section, taper slightly towards the floor and splay outward. The footrest stretchers form an H: one ties the two front legs and the other the two rear legs, both at the same height, and a single stretcher running front to back joins them in the middle. The side faces are left completely open. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version with a blue fabric upholstered seat.
