Ralvi Cane Medallion Armchair

Ralvi and Kalvi share the same body; the only difference is the crown of the medallion. Ralvi has no carved crest, and the oval closes as an unbroken ring. With the ornament removed, the contrast between the texture of the cane and the plain surface of the wood becomes the chair's only visual event.

The arms run almost straight forward and finish by rolling outward at the tip, with a slim bead along their underside. The support beneath each arm drops on a forward leaning line to the side seat rail, landing a little behind the front leg.

The front legs are curved in the Louis idiom and finish on a small pad foot; the rear legs do not repeat that curve but are plainer sabre legs raking back and outward in one shallow sweep. The deliberate mismatch between the two pairs sets the chair's profile. There are no stretchers between the legs. The front edge of the seat rail draws a soft curve that pushes forward at the centre and slim beads travel across its face. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version with a charcoal fabric upholstered seat.
