Veyon Lounge Armchair

Veyon stands apart from the dining chairs in the catalogue: its seat is low, its body deep, and it is built for resting rather than for a table. Back and seat are not separate parts; the two are shaped as a single shell that draws an uninterrupted curve as it passes from back to seat.

The shell sits inside the wooden frame with its edges standing outside it. The arms are round in section, fall from the rear leg to the front in a single sweep and finish over the front leg; there is no infill between arm and seat, so the body never looks heavy.

The legs are round in section, taper on the lathe towards the floor and splay outward on both axes. Front and rear legs are deliberately unmatched: the two carrying the front ends of the arms are thicker and rise in one piece past seat level to the underside of the arm, while the other two are slimmer and raked more sharply back. There is no stretcher anywhere near the floor between the legs; the lower two thirds are completely open. The only horizontal woodwork visible sits immediately under the shell, in the plane of the seat. In the first photograph the shell has not yet been covered: its surface is matt, the working marks are left in view and its colour differs clearly from the frame. The photographs show the raw, uncovered shell alongside the walnut stained version upholstered in petrol blue.
