Seen from the side, Zena's legs draw an A. That wide footprint is the most effective answer to tipping at bar height, and it also makes it easier to sit down without shifting the chair.
The back panel runs forward on both sides and becomes the arm, so there is no separate arm piece. The top face of the footrest is clad in metal: that is the point that wears most, and the wood does not get worn hollow over the years.
It was drawn for cafés, bars and hotels. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version, with the back and seat upholstered in olive green fabric.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech A shaped frame, a back panel with integrated arms, a metal clad footrest and a carved solid saddle seat. In the upholstered version the back and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
