Celenora's back is reclined and wide; its two ends lift slightly to draw a wing. The rectangular opening at its centre is filled with woven cane, and the wooden profile of the frame stays visible around the weave.
The arms rise from the front leg, curve like an arch and join the back. Left open underneath, the arm gives support without adding weight to the frame.
The seat is low and wide; this chair was drawn for places where people sit and stay rather than pull up to a table. The photographs show the bare frame alongside the walnut stained version with a brick red fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with arched arms, a rectangular framed natural woven cane back panel and side stretchers. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe the wood with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Clean the cane back with a dry brush or a vacuum brush on low power, and never wet it. Treat stains on the fabric seat promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth.
