Deloria's back is built from a row of turned spindles that rise out of the seat and run into the curved crest rail. The spindles gather at the centre and open out to both sides, and the crest lifts slightly like a wing.
The seat is carved into a saddle with its front edge rounded downwards. At bar height that rounding is necessary so the edge of the seat does not press on the back of the leg.
The legs are turned to a taper and splay in four directions. The stretchers between them run close to the base and give the feet a surface to rest on. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version with an anthracite fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with turned back spindles, a curved crest rail, a seat carved into a saddle and turned tapered legs. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
