Dorel was drawn around how sturdy a chair has to be when it is pulled out and pushed back dozens of times a day. The X brace in the back stops the frame racking sideways, and the doubled side stretchers do the same job lower down.
The legs are square in section and straight, with no turning or carving. Here plainness is as much a durability choice as an aesthetic one: fewer, thicker parts mean a longer life.
The photographs show the bare frame alongside the walnut stained version with the back panel and seat upholstered in blue fabric. In the upholstered version a padded back panel sits in front of the X braces.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with square section legs and an X braced back. In the upholstered version the back panel and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
