On Doren the backrest, armrest and rear leg read as a single line. The curved back panel seats into the arms on both sides, and the arms taper forward to meet the front leg. That uninterrupted transition is what gives the chair its sculptural look.
The wooden dowel ends at the joints are sanded flush and left visible. Using an exposed joint instead of a hidden screw is both a structural choice and the signature of the design.
It works at the head of a dining table, at a desk and around a meeting table. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version with anthracite fabric upholstery.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame and arms with a shaped solid back panel. In the upholstered version the back and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
