Elanora's crest rail is a curved slat that dips at the centre and rises to both sides, ending in rounded knobs. It supports the back at two points and leaves the whole area between open.
The two posts that carry the crest are turned to a taper and run in one piece from the floor up to the rail. In profile these two posts are the slimmest parts of the chair; the real strength comes from the seat frame.
The seat frame is tied at the centre by cross braces, and there are no stretchers between the legs. The photographs show the bare frame alongside the walnut stained version, with the crest and seat upholstered in emerald green fabric.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with a moustache shaped curved crest rail ending in rounded knobs, turned rear posts and a cross braced seat frame. In the upholstered version the crest and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
