Filvo's back is a shield: it begins at the top with a low arch that opens to both sides, narrows inward at the flanks and closes at the bottom in a rounded point. Two slim beads run one behind the other along the inner edge of the frame; that double line is the chair's only ornament, and there is no carved crest at the top.
The shield does not touch the seat: it stands on two short uprights rising from the back and leaves an open gap beneath it. The front edge of the seat rail is shaped with a soft curve that pushes forward at the centre, and the same beads continue across the rail face.
The front legs begin with a square block whose outer face carries a round roundel. Below the block the turned shaft narrows with lengthwise flutes down to a small foot. The rear legs sweep back like sabres and there are no stretchers between the legs. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version upholstered in salmon fabric.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with an arch topped shield back frame, a twin beaded profile, fluted turned front legs on square blocks and rear legs that sweep back. In the upholstered version the back and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
