Karsivo Bow Back Armchair

Karsivo's top rail begins at the back as a single bow, turns as it widens to both sides and runs forward to finish as an arm. Because the bow is kept low, the chair wraps the back without blocking the view, and lined up around a table it does not divide the room.

Slim spindles fill the space beneath the bow. The two spindles at the ends are noticeably thicker than the rest: they carry the point where the bow becomes an arm, while the slim spindles between them only support the back. That rhythm of thick and slim is the back's only ornament.

The seat is round with its edge rounded over. The legs splay out in four directions, are round in section and taper towards the floor. Three stretchers tie them in an H: one running front to back on each side face and a single medial rail joining their midpoints. The side rails are not plain rods but swell in the middle like a spindle, and the front and back faces are left completely open. The photographs show the unfinished natural version alongside the walnut stained one with a grey fabric upholstered seat.
