Selene's back spindles rise out of the seat, open upwards like a fan and run into the curved crest rail. The crest dips at the centre and lifts to both sides; sitting at shoulder height, that line wraps the back.
The arms join the rear spindles and reach forward. Their front ends open into a ring: the hand rests on that ring, and the surface that wears at the end of the arm grows with it.
The seat is carved into a saddle. The legs are turned to a taper and splay in four directions, with stretchers between them locking the frame. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version with a dusty rose fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with turned back spindles set like a fan, a curved crest rail, arms finishing in a ring, a seat carved into a saddle and turned tapered legs. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
