The Lorex back is built from a single hooped rail with slender spindles set into it. Both ends of the hoop are joined into the seat, which leaves the back a small amount of spring. Over a long meal, that flex is what supports the back.
The seat is carved into a saddle shape, the legs are turned down to a taper and tied together with an H stretcher. The result stays sturdy despite its plainness, and works on its own as readily as around a table.
The photographs show the unfinished natural solid frame alongside the walnut stained version, with the back panel and seat upholstered in blue fabric.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame, turned spindles in a hooped back and a carved saddle seat. In the upholstered version the back panel and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
