Mavrion Round Armchair

Mavrion's top frame leaves one arm tip like a horseshoe, travels around the back and ends at the other arm tip. The line is not of constant thickness: it is slim and flattened at the arms and, at the back, widens into a crescent deep enough to carry the sitter. The joints where the narrow arm rails meet that crescent are left exposed at the two shoulders and used as a detail rather than hidden.

A rectangular opening is left between the arm and the seat on each side, framed by the arm support at the front, the rear post behind it and a horizontal rail below. The arms narrow as they run forward and finish in flattened, chisel like points that project just beyond the front posts. The inner face of the crescent is hollowed out, and in the upholstered version the back pad sits in that hollow.

The legs are round in section, taper towards the floor and carry no stretcher at any level; the chair touches the ground at four points only. The front rail of the seat frame bows down as a deep crescent, while the side rails are straight and much shallower. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version with an orange fabric upholstered back and seat.
