Melya's tall back is made of spindles that fan out slightly as they rise, gathered at the top by a crescent shaped crest rail. The curve of the crest falls at the nape, so leaning back does not leave the head unsupported.
The arms sit on turned posts, and the rockers draw a long arc front to back. A long rocker slows the swing and takes away any sense of tipping. On a rocking chair, that is the dimension that decides comfort.
It belongs in the corner of a living room, on a balcony or in a nursery. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version with a green fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame, turned spindles and posts, and solid shaped rockers. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
