Meyro Double Frame Chair

Meyro is built on a single idea: both the back and the seat are hollow frames with rounded corners. A stepped rebate is cut along the inner edge of each, and in the upholstered version the pad drops into that rebate with the edge of the fabric disappearing under the wood.

In the bare frame photograph both frames are completely empty and the floor behind shows through the two of them at once. In that state the chair reduces to a diagram of two rectangular hoops stacked one above the other, and the shadow line of the rebate reads on its own in each.

The back frame leans markedly backward and stands on the extensions of the rear legs. The legs are square in section and taper slightly towards the floor; a stretcher runs front to back on each side and ties the body. They sit on the side faces only: the front and back faces stay completely open, there is no medial member and nothing closes into a ring around four faces. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version with a plum fabric upholstered back and seat.
