Nolvani Cane Chair

Nolvani's back is a rectangular frame with generously rounded corners, filled with woven cane. The frame does not sit on the seat: it stands on two rear posts, well clear above it. The gap between them noticeably lightens the chair when it is seen from behind.

The rear posts lean back slightly as they rise from the seat, so the back stands at an angle rather than upright. The section of the frame that keeps the cane taut is kept slim, and the radius of the corners is the only ornament.

Under the seat there is a shaped bracket on each side: it bridges the rear leg to the underside of the seat on a soft line and eases the junction between them. The front legs are round in section and tapered while the rear legs are flat and blade like; all four splay outward. The stretchers run front to back on both side faces and meet a single medial rail that flares slightly where it lands on each. The front and back faces carry no rail.
