The Orven back is an oval frame formed where the two uprights meet at the top. The name medallion comes from that shape. The inside of the frame is upholstered while the profile of the wood stays visible around it, and it is that slim edge which gives classic sets the elegance they are chosen for.
The front legs are curved in the cabriole manner and the rear legs splay slightly outward. The seat frame is mortise and tenon jointed with the upholstered pad set into it, so the chair stays open to being reupholstered years later.
The photographs show the bare frame alongside the walnut stained version upholstered in cream fabric. For the version with arms, see the Varnis model.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with an oval medallion back and curved cabriole front legs. The back and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
