Varnis is the upholstered back member of the same classic family as Taren. The acanthus motif at the top of the back is hand carved; in place of cane, a padded and fabric covered shield panel is used here. That choice makes the back softer but less airy.
The arms curl forward to a stop and sit on the same line as the front leg. The front legs are curved in the cabriole manner and the rear legs splay outward, while the side stretchers lock the frame over long use.

Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with a hand carved crest and a shield shaped back frame. The back and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
