Riva's hoop begins behind you and wraps forward on both sides, but it never rises to arm height: it ends just above the seat. That in between height leaves somewhere for the arm to rest while still letting the chair tuck fully under the table.
The spindles between hoop and seat narrow as they descend. The seat is carved from solid timber into a saddle, and the legs are turned to a taper and tied with a cross stretcher.
It suits a dining table, a desk and a kitchen. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version with a dusty rose fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with a low bent wrapping hoop, turned spindles and a carved solid saddle seat. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
