Sila carries the hundred year old line of the coffee house chair up to bar height. The splat at the middle of the back is pierced in a fan: five voids that widen as they open upwards.
The crest rail is broad and flat and curls forward on both sides to become the arm. There is no separate arm piece; crest and arm are one, and that removes the joint worked hardest at bar height.
The legs are steam bent. The ring footrest running between them, together with the arched braces, both locks the frame and gives the feet a surface to rest on. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version with a beige fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Steam bent solid beech frame with a pierced fan shaped splat, a one piece crest rail that becomes the arms, a ring footrest and a solid seat. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
