Talvo is the upholstered counterpart to Nevro: it shares the same shield form, the same serpentine top rail and the same curved Louis leg, but the frame is filled with fabric rather than cane. In the bare frame photograph the inside of the shield is completely empty and the floor behind shows through it.
A carved crest in the leaf and scroll idiom sits at the centre of the arch and breaks the outline of the shield upward. A stepped rebate runs along the inner edge of the frame; in the upholstered version the fabric sits in that rebate and its edge disappears under the wood.
The front legs are curved in the Louis idiom and finish on a small pad foot; the rear legs are plain and raked back. There are no stretchers between the legs. The front edge of the seat rail draws a soft curve that pushes forward at the centre. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version with a sage green fabric upholstered back and seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with a shield back frame carrying a carved crest, a serpentine top rail, a stepped rebate for the upholstery, curved Louis front legs and raked rear legs. In the upholstered version the back and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
