Tavin's back is a broad rectangular frame with rounded corners, filled with woven cane. The panel does not stand upright but leans back markedly, which makes the chair as suitable for long conversations as for a dining table.
The seat rail is not a plain quadrilateral: it draws a curved band that drops at the sides and rises at the centre, taking the cushion inside that curve. In the bare frame photograph the rail is completely empty and that curved line reads on its own.
The legs are square in section and taper slightly towards the floor. A stretcher runs front to back on each side face; the front and back faces are left open. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version with a dusty pink fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with a natural woven cane back inside a round cornered frame, reclined rear posts, a curved shaped seat rail, square section legs and a stretcher on each side face. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe the wood with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Clean the cane back with a dry brush or a vacuum brush on low power, and never wet it. Treat stains on the fabric seat promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth.
