On Valoria the back panel does not rest on the arm; a gap the width of a finger is left between them. That is the open crest the model is named for. The gap lets the back flex and lightens the frame when seen from behind.
The arms start at the rear post, run forward as they narrow and stop above the front leg. The top edge of the panel rises slightly at the centre, giving a more defined silhouette than a straight line would.
The seat is shaped into a shallow saddle. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version, with the back panel and seat upholstered in fuchsia fabric.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with arms that narrow towards the front, a gap left open between the back panel and the arm and a shallow carved saddle seat. In the upholstered version the back panel and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
