Varda's back stands clear of the seat: an oval panel floating on two uprights gives support at a single point just above the waist. At bar height a broad back would trap the body, so less is the right answer here.
The rails under the seat are cut with a curve rather than left straight. The detail lightens the frame and keeps the rail off the back of the thigh. The legs splay outward and footrests tie them on all four sides.
It was drawn for kitchen islands and bar counters. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version, with the back and seat upholstered in dusty rose fabric.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame, an oval solid back panel, shaped seat rails and footrests on all four sides. In the upholstered version the back and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
