On Vela the arm, the back and the front leg are one line. It begins at the top edge of the back, comes forward as the arm and turns into the front leg without a break; no joint shows on the frame.
The back panel rises on one side and falls towards the other like a sail. That asymmetry gives the chair a sense of movement from the front, while the silhouette stays plain from behind.
The legs are round in section and taper towards the floor; there are no stretchers between them and the curved seat rail locks the frame. The photographs show the bare frame alongside the walnut stained version, with the back panel and seat upholstered in navy fabric.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with curved arms running unbroken from the back to the front leg, a sail shaped back panel and a curved seat rail. In the upholstered version the back panel and seat are padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
