Zayvo's back is unusually tall: a broad frame with rounded corners starts at seat level and rises above shoulder height, filled with woven cane along its whole length. The panel is gently curved on the vertical axis and wraps to support the back.
The back is not a part added to the seat: the rear legs are not cut off at the seat but continue upward in a flat section and form the two sides of the frame. Seen from the side, the chair therefore reads as one continuous line.
The front legs are round in section and taper towards the floor; there are no stretchers between the legs, the rigidity coming from the seat rails. In the bare frame photograph the seat opening is empty and the battens that hold the cane taut stay visible on the rear rail. The photographs show the bare, unfinished and unupholstered frame alongside the walnut stained version with an oatmeal fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with a natural woven cane back inside a tall round cornered frame, flat rear legs continuing unbroken into the back, round section front legs and no stretchers. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe the wood with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Clean the cane back with a dry brush or a vacuum brush on low power, and never wet it. Treat stains on the fabric seat promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth.
