Zelena takes Amarilis's bobbin turned language up to bar height. The spindles in the back are turned with a run of lens shaped swellings down their length; light breaks over them, so the back reads as textured even from across a room.
The crest rail is straight and slim and sits on the spindles like a drawn line. Because the ornament gathers in the spindles, the crest is left plain.
The legs are not tapered along a single line: they thicken at the top, narrow at the middle and swell like a knot where the stretchers meet them. The stretchers run on all four sides, locking the frame and giving the feet a surface to rest on. The photographs show the unfinished natural frame alongside the walnut stained version with a brick red fabric upholstered seat.
Materials and fabric
Solid beech frame with bobbin turned back spindles, a straight crest rail, organically shaped legs with knot like stretcher joints and a wooden seat. In the upholstered version the seat is padded and covered in upholstery fabric.
Care
Wipe wooden surfaces with a soft, damp cloth and avoid abrasive cleaners. Treat stains on fabric promptly and locally with a lightly dampened cloth. Keep the wood out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from radiators, and check the joint screws once a year.
